The musuem and its collections

The Musée de l’Ancien Évêché stands at the heart of the historic centre of Grenoble, just next to the cathedral, occupying the former bishop's palace, now a listed building. The ground immediately below the building contains archaeological remains of considerable importance, testimony to the town's religious history, with a baptistery dating from the beginning of the Christian era in France. The palace itself houses the museum's fine collection, retracing the history of Isère from prehistoric times to the present day. Every year the museum organises two temporary exhibitions on topics of interest related to local heritage.
